Folks it's time for me the 'fess up.
James Bond has never really been my cup of tea.
Not until the reboot.
Not until Daniel Craig took over the role Barbara Broccoli took the franchise in a wholly new direction then upped the game again with a brilliant film altogether Skyfall. From the song to the women in the series this rebooted version of Bond has been way more appealing to the Bonds of the past for me.
They challenged Bond with highly intelligent, beautiful women who were complicated with secrets of their own. Who doesn't love watching Bond take off his shirt from time to time. The man is supposed to be sexy, charming, and learning.
As he says Dench's M. in Casino Royale so you want me to be part monk and part hitman. To which she retorts, any thug can kill. Daniel Craig gets beneath the surface of Bond. Shows the grit, shows where he's pretty screwed up emotionally.
With a brilliant script, enemy and director for Skyfall, and let's face it, an Oscar winning Bond Theme Spectre has much to live up to.
With Sam Mendes returning as director, and brilliant villain in Christophe Waltz, one hopes Spectre lives up to its incredible promise. No, Sam Phillips Bond Theme doesn't nearly live up to the brilliance that is Adele's. But then hers is a classic and it's hardly fair to compare the two.
I know there are those who adore Sean Connery and while he is the man who defined the role (hey Thunderball is my favorite Connery Bond flick) Daniel Craig is clearly the man the next Bond will be measured by.
That being said the Broccoli's must be doing something right, Bond has been around for 50 years. I was kind of hoping they'd go out with a bang with Spectre. But Forget Me Not is only the first in what I hope to be a continuing series of husband and wife spy thrillers.
I adore the premise of Bond. I have created my own Bond. Only the woman is the main character. I'm happy to say revenge stories and women wielding their own brand of justice appeals to me with one man to anchor them through the madness.
I happily look forward to Spectre. After that, all bets are off.
